This election season was my daughter, my niece and "adopted" daughter's first time voting. All of us mom's had been in a book club at one point in time and I thought we need to do that for them (the girls) for politics- like a political club; meet monthly, share information, where to find it and what we found interesting, ask questions, have a conversation. I thought it would be a fun way to help them on the path of being informed, educated citizens. We could go out to dinner after voting in the primary and in the general election. Then, our world changed, as everyone else's did and getting together looked different. So we started a text chain, shared info, virtually watched the debates together, shared pics from voting, shared thoughts and had conversations.
As I was going through this time, I realized there was a lot of questions I had and wanted to research. I wanted to share the info I learned with the girls and then my son as he turned 18, then my nephews and so on. I have many conversations with many people about our country, our political system, our government and what they mean to each of us. I want to keep having these conversations. I want to continue to share the information exchanged/learned with our group. And then I had the thought, this might be information worth sharing with more than just our little circle. To set up a platform for all and then it can be shared as people like. By no means as a place for all the answers. I am not an expert. I am a human trying to understand. A platform that can be used as a part of the journey as you find your path.
It could be a place to have a conversation. A safe place. A constructive place. A respectful place. A place where we don't all agree but we still want to have the conversation; to understand, appreciate and enjoy the differences, the similarities, the beliefs, the life experiences- that contribute to who we are.
Please post comments on any blog post to continue the conversation and share your thoughts.
