“The Mob, the Capitol and the Constitution”

I listened to this podcast 2 weeks ago.  I thought it was fantastic and wanted to share it.  It put to words a lot of thoughts I have had and answered many questions I’ve had.

“The Mob, the Capitol and the Constitution” from We The People dated 1/7/21.

What I jotted down while listening (while saying “YES” and “Hear, Hear!” and “Thank you!!”)-

“Violence is never justified”

“1st amendment applies to Government”

“The best remedy for speech we don’t like is more speech.”

“Do we want to imagine if that video was censored?”

“Cheap speech is easy.  True speech is triumph.”

It pushed against “the guardrails of democracy”.

It also mentioned the Electoral Count Act (Pub. L. 49–90, 24 Stat. 373, later codified at Title 3, Chapter 1) and Amendment 12 as references.

What I sent in an email to the podcast-

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I cannot fully express at this time how much this episode mattered in my world. I have been struggling with what happened on the sixth and how it could be seen as “patriotic“. Reading the constitution, myself, and several of the anti-Federalist papers and Federalist papers, it was just clear to me that there was constitutional basis for the votes to be sent back, that that wasn’t the VPs role, that the Judicial branch needed to play the role that it played. Listening to this episode helped me to not feel like I was alone in that understanding. I will be sharing this with many people.
Thank you again!
